www.thedorsetretreat.co.uk/index.htmWorking from my inner landscape of “emotion recollected in tranquility,” I create vibrant, stylised and symbolic artwork. Often suggesting allegorical, timeless events, my paintings capture a sense of place and spirituality. I find inspiration in our Dorset village and Hardy’s Blackmore Vale; in the Jurassic Coastline; in travels abroad; in ‘other’ worlds…and deeply-felt life experiences echoed in literature, especially poetry and mythology. Filtered through memory and imagination, as I paint meanings, stories and images evolve and deepen of their own accord.
I am self-taught; but, with wonderful help from professional tutors along the way, I now employ a variety of techniques: mixed media, collage, marbling, textured surfaces, lino/mono-printing, Zentangling, etc. I also use a variety of mediums: watercolours, pastels, modelling paste, acrylic inks/paints, gouache, gesso, pen and black inks etc; and, at the moment, I am experimenting with Brusho. Iconic visual symbols from ancient writing systems as well as Calligraphic markings can often be found in my work; and I have designed an original Pictographic alphabet which I use when painting on Xuan rice paper. This is a joyful never-ending journey: “As long as I can paint, I am on the Path to understanding what ‘it’ is all about.” (P Wolff) Phone: 01258 821183 Email: cali@thedorsetretreat.co.uk Email: http://www.thedorsetretreat.co.uk/index.htm Website: https://www.artpal.com/caliope |
