Born in Swansea in 1952, I studied pottery at school and art college in the late 1960’s. However I chose not to make it my career but returned to it as a hobby following retirement in 2007 by setting up a studio in the basement of my home in Keymer West Sussex.
I have participated in Brighton Festival Open House events for a number of years and was chair of a local artists group in Keymer. I moved to Dorset in December 2020 and have set up a new studio in my home in Font mell Magna. I am now hoping that my introduction to The Cygnet Gallery will help in establishing me as a new “local artist”.
I focus totally on thrown work (i.e. produced on a potters wheel) producing decorative rather than functional pieces. I use predominantly porcelain and stoneware clays and particularly enjoy employing the Japanese Raku glazing technique with the resultant random and dramatic effects this produces .
