Geraldine McLoughlin
Glass Art
My history includes Art and Medicine but the chance discovery of glass drew me into the challenging process of manipulating a material from solid to liquid through heat then transforming it back to a solid. The material incorporates fluidity, beauty and reflection. It can be flamboyant and subtle, controlled yet contrary, but always seductive.
Nature is a dominant influence and I study earth patterns including tree bark, rock formations, water, and coastal/marine habitats. I am also working on wildlife conservations issues. My techniques are fusing and casting. Each require different skills and I am always looking at ways to push the boundaries. Some pieces can take weeks to complete. I make pieces for both internal and external display sometimes collaborating with other disciplines to achieve the desired result. My workshop is in Wiltshire, I exhibit regularly in various venues and some of my pieces are in private collections worldwide.
