How to become a Cygnet Artist

The Cygnet is a vibrant gallery in Shaftesbury. It's run as a cooperative by  local artists, each of whom rents a unit. All the work is designed, made and crafted by us.

We are always looking for new artists interested in joining our community. Our units are affordable and, because we are subsidised by Swans Trust, they are inclusive of business rates and utilities. 

There are four ways to apply for a unit: 

1. By hand. Download and complete the application form (see link below). Attach up to five A4 images of your work and drop it off at the gallery addressed to: New Artists Applications, Cygnet Gallery, Swans Yard, Shaftesbury, Dorset SP7 8JQ. 
2. By post. Download and complete the application form, attach up to five A4 images of your work and send to New Artists Applications, Cygnet Gallery, Swans Yard, Shaftesbury, Dorset SP7 8JQ.
3. Email your application to newartists@thecygnet.org.uk. 
4. Complete the Cygnet Artists Application online form. This will be sent directly to the artist responsible for new artists applications.

Images will be sent to all current artists and a vote taken. You will then be notified of the result. If voted in a unit will be offered. If all units are occupied you will be placed on the waiting list. 

Upon taking up the offer of a unit, you will become a licence holder and be required to sign a legal contract. By doing this you undertake to pay your monthly rent and a small admin fee by standing order. A weekly half-day shift and a housekeeping task are also mandatory.
