A FELTER who paints with fibre....and an ARTIST who felts paintings (rather hairy ones!)
They say that every picture tells a story – packed with tantalisingly touchable textures, that is certainly the case with my felt pictures. Being a Shaftesbury girl my felted observations of community life provide a fresh, new burst of energy and originality to scenes with which we are all too familiar. Out of a few handfuls of sheep’s wool, I record textures and colours in the world around me - tree bark, clouds, pebbles, flowers – creating my very own picture stories by combining these with scenes from local community life. I find ‘making something from nothing’ to be incredibly satisfying, building my canvas and “painting with wool”. Practising one of the oldest crafts known to man feels pretty special too! I have a host of hand felted gifts in my ‘Cygnet’ unit from irresistibly drape-able scarves to deliciously scented felt soap bars.
